Jazz Center Of The Lviv City
The atmospheric and cozy Lviv has been for a long associated with fragrant coffee, the aroma of which wafts from every ancient street of the center, and jazz music, sounding from the coffee shops. Pid Klepsydroiu [Under Clepsydra] with Dzyga art gallery is exactly such kind of café, which is well located at the end of the legendary Armenian Street at in the building No. 35.
Behind the stone walls of the café, Art Association Dziga was formed – the organization of artists, public figures, musicians, and people concerned about contemporary art. It was founded in June 1993 by the members of the Student Brotherhood, avant-garde art environment Shliakh (Way), and contemporary underground musicians (Mertvyi Piven [The Dead Cock], Klub Shanuvalnykiv Chaiu [Tea Fans Club], and the underground festival Vyvykh [Dislocation]).
Dzyga supports, promotes, and produces diverse contemporary art. The gallery represents fine arts: painting, drawing, sculpture, performances, installations, photos, happenings, and iconography. On the second floor, in the café, concerts of different genres are constantly held. The listener can choose between such kinds as jazz, blues, rock, folk, classical, and electronic music. Periodically, the art association holds literary evenings, theater performances, and film screenings.
Dzyga made a huge contribution to the development of Lviv jazz in particular and music in general. After all, while implementing its projects, Dzyga has cooperated with many future celebrities and famous musical bands, such as Pikardiiska Tertsia, Okean Elzy, Plach Ieremii, Mertvyi Piven, Ruslana, Dzyga Jazz Quintet, Shockolad, and others.
On the basis of artistic association, several separate gatherings were separated: Movie Club, Photo Club B/W. 5×5, Ethno Club of Achievements, Lviv Jazz Club, and Blues Club.
The creation of Jazz Club confirms that Lviv is a city of jazz. The club promotes fine quality jazz culture in Ukraine and beyond educates and promotes young artists, organizes jazz concerts, jam sessions, and festivals. The major largest projects carried out by the Jazz Club are the International Festival Jazz Bez, Folk Jazz Festival Fliugery Lvova [Weathervanes of Lviv], Jazz Summer School in Lviv, and many other events.
Everybody can dive into the jazz atmosphere of this city by visiting Dzyga and drinking coffee. After all, every night music or poetry sounds here. It is important to visit the gallery, the exhibition of which is frequently updated.
