Andriy Shevchenko changes the Ukraine team’s coaching staff
This winter the former Dynamo coach Yozhef Sabo announced in the interview for Ukrainian Football Journal about the decision to appoint Andriy Shevchenko as a chief coach of the national team of Ukraine.
It will rather happen next Friday during a meeting of the executive committee of the Football Federation of Ukraine. Not only the Sabo’s words and unofficial rumors, but also particular actions taking place in recent days tell about the appointment of the former striker. For example, according to the Italian edition La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mauro Tassotti, after 36 years’ work in the AC Milan’s coaching staff, will aid Shevchenko to coach the national team.
Tassotti’s personality is attractive for numerous reasons. Mauro started his career with the SS Lazio. Nevertheless, when he was 20 years old, he became a member of the AC Milan. He was with the team during its dark period in the 1980-81 and the 1982-83 seasons. The AC Milan won three times the Champions League Cup and five times the Championship of Italy with Tassotti playing for them. After that in the 1993-94 season, under Fabio Capello, Tassotti as a captain helped Milan to win the final Champions League match with the Catalonia FC Barcelona (4:0) due to the absense of Franco Baresi and Alessandro Costacurta. Moreover, just than he firstly received the trophy from Lennart Johansson hands, the former UEFA president. In 1997, he retired from the club.
Following his retirement in 1997, Tassotti took up a coaching position and worked with Cesare Maldini and Fatih Terim. In November 2001 Tassotti joined Milan’s coaching staff under teammate Carlo Ancelotti as an assistant manager
In cooperation with Andriy Shevchenko Tassotti won the 2003 Champions League and the 2004 Italian Championship. Even without Shevchenko Tassotti has achieved the greatest success in the 2007 Champions League.
Ancelotti left the club in the summer of 2009 and in changing job place, like his successor Massimiliano Allegri, wanted him to Chelsea, Real or Juventus football clubs. However, Mauro did not leave the AC Milan. Unfortunately, he had bad relationships with Clarence Seedorf who was the club coach from January until May 2014, because of his desire to invite Hernan Crespo and Jacob Stam to fill Tassotti’s shoes. The situation has changed after Seedorf’s dismissal and Filippo Inzaghi’s appointment as a chief coach. The follow-up work was not effective for Tassotti. Last summer he ceased to be coach and began working as a scout. Then, apparently, he decided to change work place.
According to media sources, the former Dynamo Kyiv coach Raul Riancho, known as latest Dynamo Brain, will join the Shevchenko coach staff as well as Mauro Tassotti. This summer Riancho left the Kyiv club to probable moving to Russia, but then he suddenly “surfaced” in connection with the forming of the new coaching staff of our national team. It is necessary to underline the main advantages of this Spanish specialist. These are his excellent knowledge of our players’ capabilities and his strategy skills. It is evident that Shevchenko who has not any coaching experience tries to gather experienced and competent coaches around himself.
According to the same press reports, Pedro Jaro, known by his work with the goalkeepers in the Spain youth national team, “Real” Madrid CF, and then in the FC “Dnipro” headed by Juande Ramos, will become our goalkeepers coach.
Among competitors of Shevchenko was Myron Markevych, former gaffer of the FC Metalist Kharkiv and the FC Dnipro, who this Tuesday became the Head of the Executive Committee of Football Federation of Ukraine. Therefore, there were not any other questions.
Of course, after the failure during the 2016 Euro, Ukrainian team needs a new splash. Will an young coach be able to do it?
