Travelling for Introverts
Introverts are just ordinary people. Not sociopath, not passive, not indifferent to everything. They just think a little differently, they see the world differently, and, consequently, behave differently. And if they go on a trip alone, without company, it does not mean that they don’t like being in the company at all. This means that sometimes communication takes too much energy and prevents concentrating on interesting things. So, if you are an introvert, read on.
To start with, you shouldn’t be afraid to travel alone. Do not worry, it isn’t sad or dangerous.
- Don’t forget about headphones and a book. This is a kit that will help to distract from everything annoying.
- Choose a hotel carefully. A hostel with rooms for 12 people where you can’t avoid communication may not be a comfortable place to relax. But if you have a book and headphones…
- Take road records and notes. It will help you to remember the most important and interesting points.
- Plan your leisure. On the one hand, the whole trip a leisure, but sometimes you have to take some rest from walking, too
- Organize your own walking tour. Choose several attractions on a map and set off to explore the area on foot. It is always interesting. You can improvise and change the root when noticing other interesting places you haven’t heard of or seen before. Actually, this is a great opportunity to create your own route and to share it with others later.
You shouldn’t be too shy or avoid talking to strangers. Especially if they ask you about something. However, this awkward moment often disappears because of obscurity. It is often easier to communicate with people you see for the first and last time.
Consider your own abilities. Think over the route ahead. Make a list of the most significant monuments, divide them into a few days and leave little time for investigating non-tourist neighborhoods.
Take your hobby with you. If it is appropriate, of course. And another familiar thing can make comfortable your staying anywhere.
Take a seat near the aisle in public transport. It allows you to feel freer, especially if the trip lasts for a long time.
Choosing where to stay, learn about the neighborhoods. It is always better to stay in an area closer to the normal local life. Familiar everyday life can be interesting – this is everyday life in a new place. And it is likely that there are no annoying tourists. Or at least they will be fewer.
They say, the closer to the equator you are, the more people want to communicate with you. Let’s be honest, the concept of personal space in Mexican and Finn cultures is completely different … Maybe it is better for you to head North?
Replace guides with apps for a Smartphone. There are quite a lot of them – maps, guides, tips and travel diaries. What is more, there are many of them working off-line.
Don’t forget to take your camera with you. The man on the other side of is always distant.
Take a day-off after you come back. It will be not so sad to come back to real life and working everyday routine.
