Ukrainian champion stripped of the Olympic Games Bronze for doping
Doping has always been a forbidden fruit for sportsmen, but always were those who could not resist such temptation, essentially when a coach and an athlete, both are result-oriented. There were mostly isolated cases with this trouble until recently. But before The 2016 Olympics in Brazil, there was a real scandal when the Russian athletics team was disqualified almost at full strength.
Unfortunately, during the 2012 Olympics in London Ukrainian sportsman Yulia Kalina was stripped of her bronze. Additional analysis of blood tests taken from the Ukrainian weightlifter at the 58-kilo category event had tested positive for a prohibited substance, also called Turinabol.
We can also remember other times when Ukrainian athletes have suffered of doping admission. Seoul Olympic champion, runner Tatyana Samoylenko almost lost her silver during the Barcelona Olympics. One year later in her blood was detected a prohibited substance stanazolol and it was the end for her career.
The IOC stripped Ukrainian athlete Lyudmila Blonskaya of her 2008 Olympics silver won during the heptathlon competition. Ukrainian sportsman was accused in using prohibited anabolic drugs.
Vitalii Klitschko was also caught on admission of forbidden substances on the eve of the 1996 Olympics. He insisted that he has healed his injury, but he was not allowed in Atlanta. Senior Klitschko actually lost his guaranteed medal.
Atlanta Olympic champion and the first world champion in the triple jump, which is still not broken, Inessa Kravets was banned in 2000 for use of steroids. She lost her opportunity to win the Olympics in Sydney.
Our former shot putters – Alexander Bagach and Vita Pavlysh – also were in the center of constant doping scandals. Vita failed twice a drug test and Alexander – three times. Both, they have lost their world champion titles and missed The Olympics (in Sydney and Athens). Both were disqualified for life.
Vladyslav Piskun, Ukrainian hammer thrower, who won his World Championship bronze and European Championship siver, was twice tested positive for prohibited substances. After these events, he was disqualified for life.
Ukrainian women’s team in quadruple rowing lost their bronze during the Athens Olympics. One of the participants of the Ukrainian team – Elena Olefirenko – was caught for doping.
On the eve of the Beijing Olympics the leader of our boxing team – Ismail Sill, world Middleweight vice champion – was caught for doping. The boxer pleaded not guilty. But the IOC disqualified him for two years that was a reason for Ukrainian boxer to become professional.
