Parks of Kirovograd
Apart from a big number of architectural sights, Ukrainian cities are famous for their natural attractions, which are very impressive as well. That’s why WeLoveUa Team decided to tell a bit about parks of Kirovograd.
Dendrological Park
Undoubtedly, it is one of the most popular places for rest among the citizens of Kirovograd. At the end of 1950-s, when the park was founded, more than 50 plant species, mostly trees and bushes, were planted there. In a short while, the park became one of the landmarks of landscape gardening culture.
Over time, Dendrological Park lost its tidy and attractive appearance. In 2001, everything needed to be brought in order. The green zone was resumed, the playgrounds were built, some old attractions were restored and the new ones appeared. Today, Kirovograd Dendrological Park is the best in the country. There are cafes and restaurants, and everyone can taste some tea from a large samovar. The park has become a home to many bird species and a family of squirrels.
It even has its own website where you can find more information: http://www.dendropark.com.ua/
Sherwood Forest
No, you don’t have to go to England. Though it is not Edwinstowe, not even Nottinghamshire, and Robin Hood doesn’t live here, this place is worth visiting. Sherwood is a name given by locals to a small forest, situated on Volkov Street next to the Kirovograd National Technical University. Citizens of Kirovograd and neighborhoods often come here. From time to time, the park becomes a place for cycle races.
Victory Park
Victory Park, existing in Kirovograd more than two hundred years, is often called the City Garden. It stretches along Sugokleya River and Kirovograd reservoir. This park is a great place to relax regardless of the season. It is really beautiful here in autumn; you can race from the top of snow-covered hills in winter; you can enjoy viewing flowers in spring, or you can even swim in the river in summer! There is a restaurant near. However, there is a range of problems concerning Victory Park. Among the others, ongoing disputes over the privatization of territory and unresolved environmental problems can be admitted. Let’s hope things will get better. And meanwhile, try to find some time and visit this place as soon as possible.
Park Kovalivskyi
Park of culture and leisure is situated in the very centre of Kirovograd. Once there was a parade ground of Cadet Cavalry School, which hosted military parades and cavalry reviews. In the mid-nineteenth century, the boulevard was built nearby, and shortly after that the park appeared. There are a lot of pine trees, as well as samples of both local and atypical for Ukraine species. The area is quadrilateral shaped and has perfect branching alleys. A lot of monuments and Philharmonic are situated in Kovalivskyi. There is a playground, cafes and attractions. Unfortunately, the landmark is not in a good condition either…
Pushkin Park
Like two previous places, this park is going through hard times. Nevertheless, residents of the neighborhood take care of it: they mow tree tidies regularly, keep bridge over Ingul in good condition, clean trash cans and put the new ones. Despite all its shortcomings, this park gives a strange feeling. It seems that you find yourself in a different epoch, where majestic fountains and attractive light from lanterns are just ordinary reality. This place is perfect for those, who appreciate a quiet secluded rest.
