Ukraine has its own Egyptian pyramids
Ukraine has its own Egyptian pyramids, and their appearance is inextricably connected with Egypt, because those who built them were inspired with the country and its traditions. Also we have three pyramids, which, according to their creators, have unique healing properties and can cure many ailments.
By the way, Ukraine is the champion in quantity of pyramids in Europe. In Poltava region there are two them (more than 130 years old). Of course, their size is far from the tombs of the pharaohs, but there are also a family tombs, and the fate of these structures is very similar to their Egyptian counterparts.
Hundred-years pyramids in Poltava region
The first of the pyramids is located at Komandantovka village Kobelyaky district, Poltava region. And it was built on the orders of a naval officer Alexander Bilevich, who was also a soldier of Russian-Turkish war. On duty, he repeatedly visited Egypt and imbued with local culture. He was particularly struck by the tomb of the pharaohs. So Bilevich was the first who brought this tradition in Ukraine.
In 1864 Bilevich started construction. He planned to build a 15-meter pyramid of the massive granite blocks extracted in the local quarries. They were supposed to deliver top with wooden gutters. And to give structural strength and durability, they kneaded mortar on egg whites and fresh blood of domestic animals.
The construction lasted 13 years.
Sofia’s tombs
Scientists believe that the pyramid was originally conceived as a church, but in 1877 suddenly died wife of an officer – Sofia, and he decided to make a pyramid tomb. And in 1915, Alexander Bilevich was buried here also.
This pyramid call the St. Sophia Church. It consists of three levels, connected by a complex system of meandering corridors and underground passages. At the bottom there is a crypt where he found his last resting place, Alexander and Sophia Bilevich. On the ground floor you served – there was located altar and iconostasis, and the other served as a bell tower. On top of building was established Orthodox cross.
As the Egyptian pyramids, the fate of the Bilevich’s tomb was tragic. In the postwar years it sacked and partly destroyed and there was made a chemical warehouse here. Only in the early 2000s, a local businessman was interested in the fate of the pyramid and decided to restore it. Now tourists come here and listen raptly about difficult and interesting history of the building.
Zakrevskyi’s Pyramid
Zakrevsky’s tomb is also in the form of a pyramid height of 9 meters located in Berezova Rudka village in Pyryatyn district, Poltava region. It was built by a well-known landowner and sugar magnate Ignatius Zakrevskyi.
Dynasty Zakrevsky was widely known far beyond not only the Poltava region, but also in Ukraine. Intelligent gentlemen, among whom were many military, diplomats, prosecutors and landlords.
When Alexander III governed, Ignatius Platonovich served as Ambassador to Egypt and never tired of admiring the majesty and mystery of this country.
In 1889, after returning from a distant trip, he decided to build a pyramid-tomb over the grave of his parents. He approached very seriously to this.
Facets facilities clearly coincided with the cardinal points, as it was in the Egyptian pyramids. Entrance to the family Zakrevskyi’s tomb guarded the statue of the goddess Isida – a symbol of family loyalty and protector of the dead. Age of the sculpture was more than 2 000 years, and she was specially delivered from Egypt.
Inside the pyramid was painted with quotations from the Bible on the one hand and Egyptian frescoes – on the other. The walls were built of sand-lime brick and covered with a layer of cement, simulating facing tiled. Inside in the center of the chapel located altar and the crypt with four arches and a large stone cross in the center, and another, iron – on the top.
Immediately after completion of the pyramid Ignat Zakrevskii died. Daughters buried their father in the family tomb.
But in 1917 the peace of Zakrevskyi was disrupted. Pyramid was looted, the statue was thrown, mural destroyed, and bodies of the members of the dynasty of threw to a ditch, and only thanks to the chairman of the “red” Rangers Nadya Stetsenko, members of the Zakrevskyi’s family were secretly reburied.
After Revolution Pyramid was reconstructed as a warehouse for dairy products. Room temperature storage of perishable goods contributed.
The second wave of abuse of the tomb of Zakrevskyi family came in 80th of the last century. Local authorities have decided that it simply does not fit into the local landscape. Shrine would just demolished, but … It’s time for mysticism. Construction was beyond any destructive force, even the bulldozer. Was it mysticism or just mortar on the yolks and fresh blood, but the tomb still stands today.
Next to the pyramid there is a park and patrimony of Zakrevsky. The once legendary Hrebinka wrote the words to all the famous romance “Dark Eyes”. In the summer of 1843, he brought to Zakrevskii Taras Shevchenko, which was absolutely fascinated by Anna Zakrevskaya. After the visit, Ukrainian poet repeatedly visited the hosts in the 1845- 1846. On one of those visits he painted portraits of the spouses.
