Vilkovo – Ukrainian alternative to Venice
Continuing the theme about beautiful places, I would like to tell you about little Ukrainian town Vilkovo, which could be called an analogue of the renowned Venice.
You will not hear the noise of cars passing nearby, because here the road replaced by channels and as a main transport locals use “gondola” or motor boats. Vilkovo is located at the confluence of the Dunay and the Black Sea, and most of territory is located on the water. This picturesque location is permeated by water “arteries”, adjustable wooden bridges and colorful stories.
Main facts
Of course, one of the main reasons of the popularity of Vilkovo is its remoteness from civilization and its identity. Here you can find a hereditary fisherman or winemaker mostly in every yard. The population of the town speaks on a variety of dialects, but most of the population prefers Russian language pre-Petrine times.
“Ukrainian Venice” area is 460 hectares, but all pieces of land in the province created artificially. Its gardens locals arrange mainly on the islands, which can be reached only by water. Classic fertilizer locals replaced with silt successfully. Perhaps that is why there is grown grapes and strawberries with its unique taste.
The diversity of flora and fauna in this town just rolls over. You can find pink pelicans and even the famous white-tailed eagles. Vilkovo is located next to the Dunay reserve, where you can find many rare species of birds, insects and amphibians. In this area also found their home of more than 1,500 species of rare plants.
