Jacques Rivette died at the age of 87
Jacques Rivette was a classic of French cinema, but invincible Alzheimer’s disease, which the French director suffered from, gave him no rest for the last years of his life.
His path to worldwide recognition as a film critic started as early as the middle of the 20th century. He founded the “Film Newspaper” and a few years later he became the chief editor of the famous magazine called «Les Cahiers du cinéma».
“Paris belongs to us” – that was the title of his debut feature film. The director casted it in 1960. Early in his career he was standing on a stage next to the Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut and Claude Chabrol. And between these people Jacques Rivette became a member of the new wave cinema. But Francois Truffaut always believed that this new genre has appeared thanks to Rivette.
Among the masterpieces shot by Jacques Rivette, we would like to mention “Nun” (1966), “Mad Love” (1968) and “Celine and Julie really lies, those” (1974). But one of the longest duration of the pictures was the film “Do not touch me” (1971), which lasts for 13 hours.
