The British Council will help Ukrainian filmmakers
On June 23 the presentation of the year program for Ukrainian theaters and directors Taking the Stage, in which young theater-goers will be able to offer its own version of modern British productions of the play. The project is implemented the British Council in Ukraine and the NGO “Theatrical Platform” together with the theater Young Vic (London), Live Theatre (Newcastle) and Truck Theatre (Gall).
“Ukraine needs new names, because our theater is a little frozen. This competition allows filmmaker beginners express themselves out loud and immediately become known, “- said Dmitry director Bogomazov, which is one of the experts of the program Taking the Stage.
For the project selected 6 translated into Ukrainian plays, which have been created and placed in the last 15 years. According to the organizers, they already have a good history of the stage in the UK and in other countries. Directors will be able to work with the texts “Under the blue sky” by David Eldridge, “As the gods fall, the safe will not be” Selma Dimitrijevic, “miners-artists” Lee Hall, “Mysterious night in case the dog” Simon Stevens, “Blackbird” by David Garrovera and “light” Duncan McMillan.
“This is a monumental play others. They violate the topics that our playwrights do not dare to speak. They are about how a person feels in this world and how it is changing, “- noted theater critic and one of the members of the expert of the program council Anna Veselovska.
The best performances will also determine the playwright Natalia Vorozhbit, drama, Sergei Vasiliev, creative producer Hull Truck Theatre Rowan Rutter, director of theater Young Vic Gbolahan Obisesan and creative producer of Live Theatre Graham Thompson.
According to the results of the first stage Taking the Stage program will select several finalists, whose work will be presented on the stage. These directors will be able to work on their productions together with British experts, who come to Ukraine.
Application for participation in the program can be submitted until 31 July.
