“IF I GET A FOURTH OLYMPIC MEDAL, I WILL BE SATISFIED,” – OLGA HARLAN
Olga Harlan became a three-time Olympic medalist. Previously, she has won team “gold” of Olympic Games of Beijing 2008 and individual bronze at London 2012, but it is not too late to win her fourth Olympic medal. A first round of the tournament will hold this Saturday, where our Ukrainian team will compete with the team from South Korea.
After the prize award ceremony, one of the few Ukrainian journalists, who got to Brazil, get a refusal on his interview proposal, because of Olga’s extraordinary concern, but another colleague Alexander Golovinsky eventually got some information from three-time Olympic medalist in fencing.
“I am angry and a little bit tired now, but if I get a fourth medal of the Olympic Games, I will be satisfied. Of course, the Olympic Games are always different from all the other tournaments. This day for me lasted forever – there were so many emotions that I had prayed to God that it ended quickly and ended successfully, but these things go away when you get a medal, you know, that you again made history, brought a medal for Ukraine. As for Jana Yehoryan, I cannot say that she was just lucky. She worked hard for this victory. Sonia Velyka, who took gold medal, is also a very good athlete. They both deserve these awards.
I cannot say that I have coped with my emotions. I did not understand where I am by the semifinal and then when you are closer to your dreams, tension is growing, and I have really reproached myself for being unable to cope with this. I should have, but I did not do that. However, the hope that the team competition will be well. There will be four of us and I will fell easier and better.
I want to thank to Vadim Gutzait for his support to the end of competition. Thank Oleg Shturbabin, who worked with us last six months. Thank Andrei Kolosov – a psychologist, a physiotherapist and coach in one person. Then I want to thank Garik Davidian – you are always so serious that it helps me. Thank Artem Skorokhod that, despite the fact that did not happen to be in the coaching staff, still here with us. Thank Yuriy Marchenko, who prepared me for the Olympic Games. Thanks to Dmitry masseur who tolerate us. It is so large team of people that you even cannot imagine how. I also very grateful to the girls, who are not here – Galia Pundyk, Olia Zhovnir, Elena Homroviy and the girls who were there and cried when I won a medal. All this is very cool, but I need to relax a little and then again in the battle! “- said Olga Harlan.
