400 Years Of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (Photo)
Yesterday, on October 15, the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” celebrated 400 years. Students joke: «While the treatise “Seven Pieces of Evidence That a Woman Is Not a Human” was being published in Europe, Galshka Gulevychivna was already a philanthropist in Kyiv«.
Indeed, Kiev-Mohyla Academy is one of the oldest universities in Europe and the second institution of higher education in Ukraine. Kyiv Brotherhood School, founded in 1615, became the center of cultural and educational life of Ukraine. Later, it became Kyiv-Mohyla School, which at the end of the 17th century received the status of Academy. Mogylianka has been through different times – mosaic with Lenin’s quote on the main building of the University is constantly reminding of the Soviet past. «In order to not let this happen again«, the President and renovator of the University, Viacheslav Briukhovetskyi says.
But first of all, the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is the people who create it, namely, graduates, teachers, guests, and friends. Celebrating the 400th anniversary was the proof: a huge square in the courtyard was packed with university students and guests of honor. The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko came to congratulate Mogylianka. You can watch how it was in our picture story.
After that, on the second parade ground student festival begins KMA400 Fest.
Gradually shifted to the first celebration of the parade ground. There NaUKMA President Andrew Meleshevich, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, and Honorary President of the Kyiv Mohyla Academy Vyacheslav Bryukhovetsky congratulate all students and guests.
