Muse – the revival. Review of the new album “Drones”
Let’s review new album of the legendary British rock band Muse “Drones” while we waiting for their first concert at the NSC “Olympic” on July 8.
After the albums “Resistance” and “The 2nd Law” fans of the British rock band with a special interest expected for release of their next album. Slightly lift the veil of mystery, front man Matthew Bellamy promised that this project will be more conceptual and in a sense return the musicians to their creative roots, so the audience was hoping to receive a portion of high-quality material.
Back to the start
In 2014, the British introduced their seventh studio album, titled “Drones”, which, according to estimation of fans, is the best since the days of “Black Holes and Revelations”. The main topics were reflections about the Third World War and the people enslaved by the digital environment.
Lyrical hero begins his story with the track “Dead Inside”, in which he loses hope. He found a place for the dark forces in the song “Psycho”, he gradually turns into a controllable combat drones in “The Handler” composition. After that, the story develops in the opposite direction: the hero overcomes the universal evil, restores self-control and collides with nuclear apocalypse in the epic track “The Globalist”. At the end of all those passions there is a cappella composition, which is based on the spiritual hymn of the 16th century.
“Drones” album is different from the previous two ones, because the British have truly abandoned of their orchestral and electronic experiments. Muse is set to “rebirth” and attracted for working on the record incredibly experienced producer – Matt Lang who collaborated with many rock stars of the first magnitude. As a result, we got a real mix of modern art-rock, whining in the style of “Radiohead” and stadium pomp-rock, which delighted fans of the British band.
Step to something more
This creation actually could be called the best in the last 6 years. Guys very cleverly told listeners the key theme of the album, and filled it with different music. Bellamy told that their team wants to return to themselves, but to achieve this they succeeded only partially. It seems to me that after dubious period without producer activities new “Drones” was only an intermediate success for the band, and soon these guys will be pleased us with radically new songs.
