“Suffragette” – reflection of our times
“I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat.” Rebecca West
The film “Suffragette” is not about that women felt hardship and worked hard. It is not about how women were trapped, abused, betrayed and how their rights were infringed upon the times. This film is a reflection of our present and modern society. No wonder the film left in 2015, when in one of the countries for the first time gave women the right to vote. The same plot reflects the events around the 1920s.
Nowadays much of aforesaid has changed, but traditional problems which director Sarah Gavron shows are still alive. It is a social and inner misogyny, lack of women’s coalitions or sisterhood (similar fraternities) pressure of the rotten “male solidarity”, the claims and the use of force. Therefore, special thanks to the authors for showing historical moments, based on real events, they stressed everyday’ lives of modern women in different countries.
Drama accurately and linearly expresses the events. The authors attract the main character in a big and serious fight which completely changes her life. Because of the main character (Carey Mulligan played this role), we can see how much pain, you have to endure for the sake of natural and seemingly obvious, honest desire to have a basic right for deserved live.
I liked the atmosphere and the harmonious combination of Helena Bonham Carter acting. And also I was pleased to see Meryl Streep on the screen. But it seems so insignificant that I had the impression that the actress has done a great service to his presence in the film.
Some motion blur of the final left mixed impressions. However, the effect of “pulling” strains in many modern works. But the film is worthy of attention. And the more people will look it, the better it will be for the whole world.
