Important Worldwide Discoveries Of Ukrainian Scientists
Today, the development of science has reached the heights people couldn’t even imagine a while ago. Humans have created aerial transports, traveled to space, made it possible to watch the various events that take place in a world at the TV screen, and many other innovative discoveries that every citizen of the world takes for granted today. And few know that a significant contribution to the establishment of modern civilization was made by the scientists who were born in the Ukrainian lands. WeLoveUa will tell you about what Ukrainians gave to the world.
Sergii Koroliov
During 1957 and 1975, the United States and the Soviet Union fought each other in the informal space race. The two mega-countries tried to be better in space exploration. One of the first victories in the race was brought to the country of socialist republics by Sergii Koroliov. Under his leadership, the first intercontinental ballistic missile and the first artificial satellite were launched; the first manned flight into space and the flight into outer space were performed. However, this great Ukrainian was a prisoner in for 7 years, and only after the liberation from the concentration camp he headed the Soviet rocket program.
Ivan Puliui
It is difficult to imagine modern medicine without X-rays. Due to the X-rays, doctors put and refute the diagnosis. We know that this device has saved millions of lives, and few people know that one of the inventors of the X-ray was Ukrainian man Ivan Puliui. He was the one who presented his works concerning the invention to Wilhelm Roentgen, who used the achievements of the famous Ukrainian and designed X-ray tube.
Ilia Mechnykov
One of the few Ukrainians, who was awarded the Nobel Prize. Biologist Ilia Mechnykov was the founder of evolutionary embryology, immunology, and microbiology. He developed the theory of germ layers, the origin of multicellular organisms, discovered the phenomenon of phagocytosis, and developed the phagocytic theory of immunity.
Igor Sikorsky
The contribution to the world of aviation has made American engineer, the emigrant from Kyiv Igor Sikorsky. In 1918, the scientist emigrated to the US, where he founded the Aircraft Corporation Sikorsky, which developed the first US amphibious aircraft. While being a student of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Sikorsky designed and built a helicopter. And in the United States the pilot developed and tested his first helicopter VS-300. Another model – R-4 – has become the helicopter of the first series production in the US.
Mykola Benardos
He was the founder of the circular electric welding. Today it is used for constructing buildings, bridges, producing cars and other objects. The glory of one of the world premium inventors was rightfully gained by Bernardos, for he is the developer of over 100 inventions in various fields of technology.
Iosyf Tymchenko
The Lumiere brothers are considered the founders of the cinema. In 1895, they presented their invention, the kinescope, to the audience. However, they did not know that two years earlier, in 1893, Iosyf Tymchenko together with physicist Mykola Liubimov demonstrated their movies in Odessa with the kinescope they have created earlier. So, our countrymen were two years ahead of the Western inventors.
Nowadays, a large number of Ukrainian inventions are used in countries all around the world, and often they have no value in Ukraine. WeLoveUa team believes that there will be more outstanding scientists of Ukrainian origin, and their inventions will be useful to their homeland.
